Sometimes 15 - Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas, Listeners!

Even if you don't celebrate Christmas, let me send you my best wishes for the holiday season in the shape of the Sometimes 15 Christmas Special. Featuring music from X, The Elves of Heaven, and John Serrie (download links below); also "Quiztimes" the exciting (er?) new Sometimes quiz that - especially for this holiday edition - pits characters from my podcast novels past and present against each other to see who knows the most about Christmas, or "Crimbo" as we call it on this side of the pond (and no, that's not in the questions).

saki_Bertie_christmas

There's also a story from Saki, "Bertie's Christmas Eve", and an unusual reading of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" - though I won't say more about that here as it will spoil the surprise of the unusual.

All in all, it's a big fat 45 minute bundle of festive nonsense that I'm sending to you all in place of the Christmas cards I can't send you because I don't have your addresses and I couldn't afford the stamps. Have a good one, listeners, and I look forward to filling your ears with more podcast delights in 2011.

... Oh, and comment for Pete's sake. What, am I talking to myself here??

U&F 30 Update

Hello listeners Sincere apologies for the delay on U&F 30; a couple of weeks ago I went from being a part-time teacher to a full-time one, doing eight hour days plus commute. I usually get home at around 7pm, and when I do, I’m spent. I managed to get the Ep 30 recording done last weekend and I’m working on the edit whenever I get an opportunity. Right now, I’m about a third of the way through it. The good news is, I hope to get back to part-time employment soon, maybe next week if all goes well – even it means only a six hour day, that’ll be an improvement. Anyway, long story short: I’m not dead, I haven’t forgotten U&F or my audience, I’ve just been swallowed by circumstances. I thank you for your patience, and hope to get U&F 30 out to you as soon as I possibly can. M

Sometimes 14. Halloween Special. Man-Size in Marble

Happy Halloween, Listeners!! A gigantic, 90 minute edition of Sometimes featuring my reading of E. Nesbit's, Man-Size in marble, is now live. The show also features Music from A Band Called Quinn, your Listener's Q&A with my wife asking your questions, a trip to the kitchen to see "What's in my Fridge?", plus various outbreaks of random Halloween weirdness.

Jon Cape has rendered a new image of Underwood. This time he's in his vampiric infancy, somewhere back in the 18th Century. Nice one, Jon. Now, when are we going to see that From Beyond video? Smile

iTunes Problems with Episode 28?

A number of people have contacted me to report problems with their download of U&F 28. I just checked my own download of it and I see it's about 47 minutes long and cuts off in the middle of a conversation between Underwood and Lydia. This is indeed a duff download. All episodes of U&F finish with the play-out music, so, no music = bad download. The actual length of Episode 28 is an hour and three seconds (more or less).

I have logged a complaint with iTunes because the episode with my hosting site is whole and intact (I know because I just downloaded it). So if your download of U&F 28 ended abruptly, please click this link to get the whole thing: Underwood and Flinch Episode 28 (whole and intact)

Sorry for the inconvenience Embarassed

Underwood and Flinch: Episode 29

The moon rises on Episode 29, in which Underwood, David and friends go for a meal in Ronda; what could possibly go wrong?

To get involved in Planet U&F, send in - via this site, or MBP.com, or Facebook or email (address given on the podcast) a 15 second MP3 or WAV (preferred formats) before 1st Jan 2011 saying who you are, where you are, and how you listen to U&F, and you can become an actual part of the original U&F podcast ... which is nice :-)

Sometimes Halloween Special / Planet U&F

Hello Listeners

Following some gentle nudging by a few of you, I'm putting together an episode of Sometimes for Halloween. It'll feature a classic tale (I won't say what it is yet, but I've already started recording it), a trip to the fridge (the contents of which have changed dramatically since I've become a healthy-eater), some music, and some other stuff which I'll need you to help me create.

jack

I'll be roping my wife into doing another Q&A session with me, so if you have any questions about U&F (that don't require me to spoil the plot in any way), questions about my work process, my fridge, or anything else (within reason ;-) please post them here as a response to this post, or email them via this site, my email (which follows shortly) Facebook or Twitter (@4eversleepless ).

Also, I have another thing I'd like to start doing from time to time on the U&F podcast itself, and that is 'Planet U&F'. Since U&F has a global audience, I thought it might be nice if listeners around the world could actually record a brief message where they say hi to the rest of the audience. It'll be your opportunity to actually hear your voice on the U&F podcast. All you need to do is record yourself using a phone or anything else that can make MP3s, saying something along the lines of "Hi Planet U&F, this is Mike Bennett in Dublin!" That's it. Obviously you can say a bit more to make it personal, but not much, or I'll have to cut it. Try to keep it under fifteen seconds. I want to mix the messages up so we can hear lots of voices, male and female from all over the world. So don't be shy, record your shout for Planet U&F and send them to me at (and this email is all one word): the mike bennett at g mail dot com (I spelled that out to deter spambots). So come on Planet U&F, let's hear you! And send me those questions too.

The Halloween Sometimes will go live on Halloween, and U&F 29 should be live before the end of this week.
